Ramadan is a blessed month, and one of the best ways to make the most of it is by performing good deeds. To encourage children to perform more good deeds, Muslim Learning Garden came up with the idea of making a Ramadhan Good Deed Tree (Topiary). It’s a simple yet creative way to motivate children to do good things and watch their efforts bloom into beautiful flowers.
Here are the steps to create your own Ramadhan Good Deed Tree:
- Gather the materials: You will need a flower pot, a styrofoam ball, florist foam, stick (a dowel works well), and some pipe cleaner to wrap around the stick.
- Cut the florist foam into the shape of the pot and push the stick through the foam, making it stand out of the pot. You can wrap some pipe cleaners around the stick if you want to.
- Push the styrofoam ball onto the other end of the stick until it is about three quarters of the way through
- Stuff some tissue paper into the base of the tree to hide the florist foam. Use sticker letters to decorate the flower pot.
- To make the flowers, use a die to cut out flower shapes from cardstock. Make a small hole in the middle of the flower using a paper piercer and push through a colored toothpick for the stem.
- You can also purchase precut flower shapes made out of cardstock or foam at most craft stores. Flower punchers are also available to punch out flower shapes.
- The idea is to reward the child with a flower for a good deed. As the child performs good deeds, the tree will blossom with more flowers.
By the end of Ramadan, you will have a fully blossomed Ramadhan Good Deed Tree to put on display by Eid. It’s a beautiful way to encourage children to perform good deeds, and it’s also a fun and creative project to work on together.
